More than 18,000 lb of food delivered and more than 13,000 multivitamins not to mention various medications and a couple of tents… delivered to care for more than 3500 people in 600+ families. You have brought hope, love, and life to save and sustain them for at least the next four weeks.
My friend Richard is on his way home from Haiti. I did not want to post much about him during his time there, simply because I wasn’t sure whether it would be more of a help or a hinderance.
Now that he is almost home, I am anxious to say how proud I am to count him as a friend. The plan he devised only a week ago has resulted in great success. I can’t wait to hear all of the stories from his short trip there.
This trip was just a band-aid; there is still much, much more to do. I hope to speak with Richard when he gets home and settled to discuss what the next steps are for bringing hope and health to the people of Mirebalais.
As many of you know, when the earthquake hit Haiti last week, we were only weeks away from launching a new work called Ryl (pronounced: Real). For now, all existing plans Ryl had have been set aside, including the site development. In the meantime, a Blog theme has been put in place and I will use this forum to update you all on what is happening in Mirebalais, Haiti.
Ryl will continue to work on achieving charitable status with the Canadian government, while simultaneously directing funds to those who so desperately need them.
Richard has been doing some incredible work this past week for the people of Haiti, and specifically in Mirebalais. Through a growing network of people, he was able to source a water filtration system that filters 2000 L of water per hour, servicing up to 50,000 people a day. There are currently about 25,000 people in Mirebalais and surrounding area who are in dire need of a system like this. The most amazing part of the story: the filtration company, PWN Technologies, is donating this system to the village at no cost to anyone.
Richard is currently working on a way to get food to the people of Mirebalais. It’s not an easy task, given how hard it is to fly into Haiti. I will keep you updated when I know more.
Follow updates over on GetRyl.com as Richard works with his partners in Haiti and the people of Mirebalais. It will be a long road to recovery, but hopefully you will join us on the journey.
Just a quick update about Haiti to all my Tumblr followers and RSS readers:
My friend Richard just connected with his partner in Haiti, Thimothee, who has survived the earthquake. The word is that Thimothee and his family are ok, and we’re starting to make plans on how to support Thimothee and the Back to Life team in Port-au-Prince and Gilbert-Mirebalais.
Thanks to everyone for your kind words and support in this time. I know Richard and his friends truly appreciate it.
